About The Program:


The San Diego Area Writing Project will provide 10 hours of professional development for up to 24 9-12 classroom and resource teachers and the principal with the goal of developing instructional approaches for improving student writing and academic achievement by building a writing community, utilizing mentor texts, and implementing an inquiry approach to writing. Topics may include: academic language; writing fluency/stamina; rigor and accountability; strategies for teaching grammar; strategies for ELL students; and, fostering a love of writing for both teachers and students. Special focus for 2019-2020 sessions will include a review of a core component of the ELA balanced writing plan and learning related to Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor Among Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students by Zaretta Hammond.
