Strand C: Best Practices in Assessment for the World Language Class

About The Program:

Are you ready to challenge outdated conceptions about assessment? Are you ready to revamp assessment and grading policies in your classroom or department? Do you ever have the feeling that your grades don’t accurately reflect what students know and are able to do?” As a continuation of the standards-aligned teaching strategies presented in Strands A and B, Stand C will introduce you to the latest theories and practices of assessment that will reflect and promote your students’ growth in proficiency. The participants will do the following regarding assessment:

  • analyze, reflect and challenge one’s own practices
  • consider research-based approaches
  • focus on backward design in the world language classroom
  • gain knowledge essential to facilitating changes in and beyond the classroom
  • understand the essential nature of student peer review/assessment
  • learn to teach students to “own” their development/progression/competency in their language class through the use of can-do statements

Appropriate for teachers of all languages and levels.
