This 40 hour program (5 days) will provide teachers with an introduction to the concepts of Social Justice and how to incorporate them in the World Language and ELD Curriculum. Participants will begin by exploring the six themes of Social Justice and their connections to Global Competency Skills and the World Readiness Standards. This preparation will then guide their work as they explore frameworks for embedding Social Justice and empowering student agency throughout their World Language courses. Participants will produce a unit of instruction that incorporates linguistic and intercultural learning targets and is grounded in a social justice theme appropriate to students’ age, stage of proficiency, and interests. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to purchase 4 CE units from the College of Continuing Education at Sacramento State University.
