NCWP FY 18/19 National Parks Service Collaboration

The Northern California Writing Project (NCWP) proposes to partner with the Tule Lake Unit of the National Park Service to collaborate on the creation of new educational resources that will benefit both parties. The NCWP will send two teacher-consultants to a four-day retreat at the Tule Lake Unit during summer 2018, and to two follow-up meetings in the 2018-19 school year. During these events, the teacher-consultants will tour the NPS unit, collaborate with the unit’s Education Coordinator, and develop curricular resources related to the history and science of the unit. The participating teacher-consultants are Carla Truttman, a history/social studies and English teacher at Yreka High School, and Christian Birch, a science teacher also at Yreka High; Truttman will also serve as the project’s lead, and will coordinate all activities. The curricular resources created in this partnership will be piloted by students at Yreka High, and will then be disseminated to any teachers interested in studying and/or visiting the Tule Lake Unit.
