Foundation Strand: Instructional and Motivational Strategies to Engage Language Learners

About The Program:

This 40-hour program is designed to support CSMP goals I and II by providing participants with effective research and standards-based instructional strategies that both motivate and engage learners in the acquisition of the target language.  Participants will have the opportunity to review the World Language Content Standards, familiarize themselves with the Common Core State Standards and the English Language Development Standards and how to align language instruction to these standards. The program will include the modeling of interactive instructional strategies and Core Practices  that research suggests are most effective to develop students’ communicative competence and cultural competence in the languages that they are learning.  Special emphasis will be placed on demonstrating instructional practices that captivate student interest and motivate them to demonstrate higher levels of language performance.  This program will also address strategies for organizing learning and optimum classroom environments, differentiating instruction to address students diverse learning styles and assessing student performance employing a variety of measures in all three modes of communication ( Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational).
