About The Program:

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and the Graduate School of Education's Center to Support Excellence in Teaching (CSET) and Stanford World Language Project (SWLP) invite new and experienced teachers of Spanish for Heritage Learners to join a Professional development course tailored to the pedagogical needs of the heritage Spanish classroom.
The seminar series will focus on:

  • Acquiring and sharing strategies for culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Establishing learning outcomes that draw on heritage learners’ foundational strengths
  • Addressing issues of student motivation
  • Developing content on critical topics related to the wonder and importance of Latin America
  • Reviewing, designing, and/or revising course materials and practices to align with Common Core StateStandards and the California World Language Content Standards

The Heritage Spanish Strand includes pedagogical workshops by SWLP lead teachers, guest presentations by
CLAS-affiliated faculty and the possibility of individual coaching sessions.
