World Savvy Classrooms

About The Program:


The World Savvy Classrooms program integrates the highest level of global competence learning into classrooms by combining professional development and consulting for educators with multi-disciplinary projects for middle and high school students. The Classrooms program is aligned with and supports Common Core state standards, ensuring students learn the required ‘core’ content mandated by state and national standards, in a way that establishes real-world connections to the material.

World Savvy Classrooms combines ongoing support for educators with impactful classroom activities to transform learning in the classroom. The program is divided into four components:

Professional Developement Workshops - Ongoing

  • Initial workshop focused on the global theme that will prepare educators to embed the theme into their curriculum using project-based learning, art, and media.

  • Follow-up workshop on project design and development.

  • Supplemental webinars, differentiated based on the educator’s experience with World Savvy.

Educator Consulting - October - Jauary

  • Support for the development of a World Savvy project for students and integration of the theme into the classroom.

  • One-on-one consulting sessions and remote support.

  • Educators partner with Implementation Associates.

Youth Engagment - October - March

  • In-class support from Implementation Associate to engage students and assist in the development of Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) plans.

  • Launch Workshop designed to introduce students to World Savvy and the annual theme.

  • Additional workshops that fit into the teacher’s curriculum.

World Savvy Festival - May

  • Culminating event for students to share the projects they have created with peers, parents and the community.

  •  Students can choose to compete for prizes in the Challenge competition, or display their work in a non-competitive Showcase event.

  •  Students can choose to submit a website, exhibit, documentary, film (mockumentary, stop- motion, animation etc.), visual art (2D, 3D, multimedia, etc.) or do a live performance (spoken word, dance, music, skit etc.).

Introduction Workshop

This workshop will introduce new World savvy Classrooms teachers to the global competencies, and how they can be used to explore the theme of Population and Progress in the classroom. For returning teachers, this workshop wil take deeper dive nto population and progress as well as World Savvy's educational approach.

Educator Consulting

Educators Receive three hours of one-on-one consulting sessions and up to three hours of additional remote support from the Implementation Associate to support the development of a World Savvy project for sudents and integratins of the global theme into the classroom.

Launch Workshop

This workshop is developed to get students engaged in the theme and kick-start the project and inquiry-based learning process. At the end of the workshop, students will be prepared to think through what issues they are most interested in, and what media/process interest them most.  In addition, the launch workshop can be used to jelp determine which may work best for the class, the Showcase or the Competition. World Savvy suggests that this workshop be facilitated by the Implementation Associate, but int he case or remote participation or experienced teachers, they may choose to facilitate this workshop idependently.

World Savvy Festival

This culminating event provides a space for students to share the projects they have created with their peers, parents, and wider community. All students int he Classrooms program can choose to submit a websitem exhibit, documentary, film, visual art or do a live performance.

Students have the option to compete for prizes with their work at our Challenge competition, or display their work in a non-competitive setting at our Showcase event. All students will be asked to submit a porfolio of student thinking at the Festival.
