Bio: Dr. Padilla is a Professor of Education in the Stanford University School of Education, Chair of the Psychological Studies in Education Program and is the Faculty Advisor for the California Foreign Language Project (CFLP) and the Bay Area Foreign Language Program (BAFLP). Professor Padilla was trained in experimental psychology and conducts research in foreign/second language learning. He is widely published in the areas of second language acquisition and the evaluation of professional development activities for language educators. He recently contributed the chapter on “Quantitative Methods in Multicultural Education Research” for the Handbook of Research on Multicultural Education (2004) and “Second Language Learning: Issues in Research and Teaching” for the Handbook of Educational Psychology (in press). Professor Padilla is familiar with language education from levels at the K-12 level and was the Chair of the Writing Committee for the California Foreign Language Framework for Grades K-12 published in 2003 by the California Department of Education.
