2005-2006 Pathways to Understanding the Arts Disciplines Institutes

New! 2005-2006 Pathways to Understanding the Arts Disciplines Institutes designed to enable K- 6 teachers to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to teach the arts.

The California Arts Project will be offering its new regional Pathways to Understanding the Arts Disciplines Institutes to K -6 educators in Music, Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts. These in-depth 72 hour institutes focused on one arts discipline qualify for NCLB HOUSSE points and professional growth hours.

Each institute focuses instruction on the basic processes, academic language, techniques, skills and knowledge of the discipline aligned to the Visual and Performing Arts Content standards. The institutes will support the K -6 educators as they begin to teach in their chosen arts discipline.

Participants will engage in standards-based instructional lessons that demonstrate successful standards-based teaching practices to meet all learners needs. Each participant will be supported in the creation and implementation of a standards based instructional unit in the institute's discipline. The participating educators will also become informed of arts education issues, and engage in professional reflection.
