Calling Young Artists: Scholarships Available in Dance, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts

Los Angeles - The California Alliance for Arts Education is pleased to announce scholarships that provide an opportunity for young artists to pursue their dreams. Outstanding students interested in pursuing careers in dance, music, theatre or visual arts are invited to apply for the Emerging Young Artist Awards (EYAA). The EYAA is a competitive scholarship program that provides substantial multi-year support to talented young artists who do not have the financial resources to pursue higher education in their art form.

Four winners will be selected, one in each of the four artistic disciplines, to receive up to $20,000 over four years while enrolled in a degree or professional preparation program. Eight runners-up will receive $1,000 each. California residents who are seniors in high school or have recently graduated and deferred enrollment in a college, university or professional preparation program are eligible to apply. Applications are due (postmark date) February 1, 2002. Information and applications may be obtained from the California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) by phone at (626) 817-6300, via e-mail at eyaa@artsed411.org, or by visiting the CAAE web site at www.artsed411.org.

Finalists will be invited to exhibit and perform at the Emerging Young Artist Awards finals showcase in April 2002.

The Herb Alpert Foundation seeks to heal social needs and promote the careers of aspiring young artists by focusing on collaborative projects dealing with education, the arts and the environment. The generosity of the Herb Alpert Foundation makes substantial scholarship opportunities, like the Emerging Young Artist Awards, possible.

The California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) works to promote and support quality visual and performing arts education for students in California schools. The CAAE, a member of the national Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, is a statewide network of organization, agencies and individuals that support and advocate for arts education.
