News UPDATES o Between July 1, 2000 and June 30, 2001 TCAP sites have provided over 108,142 hours of professional development to 3,585 participating educators. The average number of contact hours per participant was 30. I want to thank our regional site directors and teacher leaders for their dedication, creativity, ability to leverage funding, and hard work in supporting the improvement of arts education through providing quality, on-going professional development throughout the state. This information was obtained through the data analysis of all of the CSMP Participant Information Forms filled out by our participants and submitted by TCAP site directors. o TCAP has a new institute model called the Collaborative Design Institute, CDI. The first of this new invitational yearlong institute is underway in Southern California. Over 50 arts educators are working in cadres to design, field-test and refine standards based arts units that connect to the visual and performing arts standards. The next CDI is planned for the northern area of the state. An interdisciplinary CDI is also planned in the future. The CDI will soon join the other TCAP institute models, the traditional Open and Invitational, offered by regional sites. o Over the summer directors South CAP and TMS CAP selected new site directors. Please welcome Robyn Litt as the new South CAP site director and Renee Kredell as the new Mid- South CAP site director. Both bring with them TCAP experience, energy and many new ideas. Welcome Robyn and Renee. RAP will be selecting an interim director this fall. We won't say good bye to Fran, Catherine, and Bonnie since they will continue to support TCAP in other roles. o Copies of the Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards are scheduled to be available from CDE Press in published form by the end of October. The TCAP website has a link to the California Department of Education URL if you choose to download a copy. o The TCAP website will be posting the California Department of Education's Visual and Performing Arts News as they are released. o TCAP is working as a partner with the many California Department of Education Arts Work activities and initiatives.
