On Saturday, October 21, 2000, the Board of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards unanimously adopted the Music Standards for Teaching. The standards will be released in February 2001, with the certification process scheduled to begin Fall 2001. Board members praised the document as "rich in content, direct in presentation, and full of strong, diverse examples of accomplished teaching."

Three of our own TCAP members have for the past three years served as the California members of the National Music Standards Committee to develop the standards. They are Hansonia Cladwell, Armalyn De La O, and Paul Humphreys. The three will continue to serve on the Committee throughout the development and field testing of the assessment process.

Check the web site often for updates as the music certification process progresses.


The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards seeks practicing teachers to pilot test assessments. You will be asked to videotape a lesson and/or collect student work, and to write an analysis about your teaching in one of the certificate fields listed below.
