About BAYCAP
The Bay Area California Arts Project (BayCAP) is one of the nine regional sites of the California Arts Project (TCAP), which is the subject matter project for the Visual and Performing Arts in California, established by state legislation. BayCAP, located on the campus of San José State University, is responsible for professional development in arts education in seven counties of the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas. These counties include Marin, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and San Mateo.

We offer a variety of professional development programs that work in partnership with Schools, Districts, County Offices of Education, Art Councils, Art Providers and others to ensure the highest quality arts instruction for all students. Please see our Site Programs page for details on programs offered.

All BayCAP programs are guided from the field of knowledge that includes the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework, the California Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards, and The California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

BayCAP recognizes the continuum of a teacher's development and designs programs to meet the needs of the beginning teacher, the experienced teacher, and/or the accomplished teacher.

All BayCAP programs engage participants in standards-based practice, professional reflection, and include assessment practices that lead to student achievement.

BayCAP's mission is to provide standards-based professional development opportunities that strengthen arts education in the following ways:

Content Knowledge: strengthen, at every teaching level, teachers' subject matter knowledge in the four arts disciplines; address cultural diversity; and provide strategies for standards-based interdisciplinary connections to other academic areas.

Leadership: develop a cadre of strong educational leaders who will strengthen arts education.

Partnerships: serve as resource to schools, districts, and postsecondary institutions in planning, developing, and implementing arts curriculum and professional development programs.

Networking: maintain and strengthen networks among pre-kindergarten through higher education faculty in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas.

Evaluation and Assessment: enhance teachers' abilities to measure student achievement against visual and performing arts standards.

Technology: enhance teachers' abilities to include technology in the arts as an integral part of arts education
