ADVOCACY AND REFORM

Here are a number of agencies, institutions, and organizations which assist California educators in promoting educational excellence. Although most of them are not directly arts-related agencies, they nonetheless provide essential services in the cause of arts education.

Internet Resources for California Educators

The California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP) is a program funded through the California Department of Education and is governed by the Education Council for Technology in Learning. CTAP is a new statewide educational technology leadership initiative, designed to provide assistance to schools and districts in integrating technology into teaching and learning. CTAP is governed by a state coordinating council, with representatives from all 11 regions in the state of California. All the regions provide support to schools applying for SB1510 school-based grants and work with funded sites in implementing and evaluating their projects.

The mission of the California Instructional Technology Clearinghouse is to recommend to California educators the highest quality instructional technology resources which support California's public school reform initiatives, curriculum frameworks and performance standards. For more information: John Vaille, Executive Director at 209/525-4979 (jvaille@stan-co.k12.ca.us). The California Technology Information Project provides an on-line educational technology information resource with three major focus areas:
  • Technology Planning
  • Grants and Funding
  • English Language Learners (ELL)
For more information: Gene Agee at 408/453-6763 (geneagee@telis.org). The California State Telemation Program provides staff development focused on using the Internet to improve teaching and learning. For more information: Rowland Baker at 408/479-5323 (rowbake@santacruz.k12.ca.us).
    * TCAP has been an active participant in this project with over twenty-four (24) TCAP fellows having been trained as Telementors to assist with regional projects and training.
In addition to the regional services, CTAP sets aside a portion of its funding to support centralized activities that are best accomplished on a statewide level. These include programs such as the Schools of California On-line Resources for Educators (SCORE), video licensing and group buys, and research and evaluation. SCORE currently maintains four (4) separate sites in the following discipline areas: TCAP collaborates with other subject matter projects, County Offices of Education, 1882 Consortia, California State Deptarment of Education, and regional arts organizations so as to strengthen, by interfacing programs, and to continue the reciprocal use of resources and services.

A number of grant sources can be found on the internet...
