2003 REGIONAL SITE INSTITUTE OFFERINGS
Interested Arts Educators throughout the state are encouraged to apply for one of The California Arts Project’s 2003-2004 Institutes or regional 2003 Summer Programs.

The Invitational Leadership Institute provides educators opportunities to deepen their subject matter content knowledge in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts, to demonstrate, supported by coaching, to their peers successful standards based instructional practices, become informed of arts education issues, and engage in professional reflection. The Invitational Institute dates are June 28, August 1-10 and three additional 2 day blocks to be announced. Selection will begin this month. The location for this Institute will be announced soon.

The TCAP Collaborative Design Institute (CDI) is offered to outstanding experienced educators, pre-kindergarten through post-secondary. Participating educators, grouped in discipline cadres, will have opportunities to continue to deepen subject matter knowledge through collaborating on the design and implementation of an arts standards based unit of study, engage in lesson research, adapt excellent practice of colleagues to their own professional endeavors, and engage in professional reflection. The dates for the year-long CDI are August 4-9, September 26-27, October TBA, November 7-8, December TBA, January 9-10, February/March TBA, April 3, May 7-8.
The location for the CDI will be announced soon.
TCAP's Regional Sites are offering a variety of Regional Summer Programs aimed at building both basic content knowledge in the arts and abilities to plan arts instruction in alignment with the California Content Standards for the Visual and Performing Arts.
    • SNAP at UC Davis will be offering a summer "Pathways to the Arts" non-residential intensive event, from August 11-15, 2003. This event is open to K-12 generalist and arts specialist teachers in this region. Pathways will provide rich opportunities to enhance teaching strategies in and through the arts.     • RIMS CAP at CSU San Bernardino will offer two events, "Learning to Draw," from July 8-11th and "Learning to Paint," from August 12-15th. Registration fees for these events are $150. each or $275. for both. They are four hours daily from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. These sessions are designed for K-12 educators who would enjoy blocks of time devoted to gaining beginning drawing or painting skills. Skills gained will be used to develop standards-based classroom lessons. For more information contact:

    • NCAP at CSU Chico will conduct a one-week Arts Intensive called "Out of Your Gourd" July 7-12th. The intensive is residential on the Chico campus. Participants will receive 6 hours of standards-based instruction in each of the four arts disciplines, dance, music, theatre, and visual art. The use of gourds in various cultures will be studied.
    Cost for the one-week event is $650. Participants can earn 3 professional development units @ $45 per unit.

    • Bay CAP at San Jose State in collaboration with the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County and the Central California Writing Project will conduct "The 2003 Midsummer Arts Institute" in Santa Cruz from July 28th – August 1st. The event, open to all K-8 educators, will explore ways to engage your students in the living world of literature and the arts. Cost for the one-week event is $500. and a $150 stipend is available for the first 40 participants to register! This is not a residential event.     • Bay CAP, on the campus of San Jose State, will also offer a "5-day Summer Intensive" for K-6 generalist teachers from elementary districts in Santa Clara County from July 21-25. There is no fee for participation.
