At the Irvine Math Project, we provide K-12 math teachers with professional development tailored to their districts' individual needs. The PD includes hands-on lessons to be used with students as well as pedagogy/theory and games for classroom review.
Our focus includes:
- Training teachers how to teach major topics conceptually through visuals, concrete objects and via discussion and inquiry.
- Writing curriculum guides for districts to help them plan how and when to integrate hands-on learning into the textbook.
- Writing benchmark exams to help teachers measure the level to which students are mastering the standards.
- Helping teachers to give their students understanding of the "Why" and "Where did that come from" of the mathematics.
- Training teachers on how the brain learns math & other pedagogy.
- Coaching for individual teachers.
