IVMP serves all schools in Imperial County which is located in the extreme southeastern corner of the state. Thirteen of the 16 local districts educate 90% of the K-12 students and are designated by the state as high need due, in part, to low student performance. IVMP is housed in the Division of Education at the Imperial Valley Campus of San Diego State University.

IVMP was one of the last CMP sites to be formed. IN 2002, IVMP has been able to bring resources to Imperial County for mathematics professional development, to include expertise in the teaching and learning of mathematics as it relates to the English language learner.

IVMP programs and activities address the mathematical needs of Imperial County teachers and students through a multi-dimensional approach. Potential teachers are encouraged to enter the field of mathematics through the MSTI. Secondary mathematics teachers are supported during their first five years in the classroom throught the STRIVE-STIR project. Upper elementary and junior high school teachers receive professional development through CaMSP, a partnership between the Imperial County Office of Education and IVMP.
