The Region 5B Monterey Bay Area Math Project (MBAMP) promotes teacher practice that: Educates students from all backgrounds Supports working collaboratively and independently. Meets NCLB and state requirements. Reflects on instruction using formative and summation data. Enhances their personal content knowledge. Aligns with the California content standards. MBAMP will mirror the fundamental premise behind each CSMP site: Teachers teaching teachers can be productive and cost-effective to improve teacher practice. MBAMP will share standards-based best practices, provide technical assistance, and work collaboratively with schools/districts to design professional development leading to increased student achievement.
MBAMP's primary mission is to increase mathematical content and pedagogical knowledge of teachers. This process supports participants to become teacher-leaders and form teaching teaching communities. Our guiding principle will continue to be: when teachers deepen their understanding of fundamental mathematics, become more fluent in mathematics, and strengthen their ability to think mathematically, they communicate mathematics more effectively to their students.
The MBAMP vision is that all mathematics teachers will be well versed in mathematics content and methods. They will respond with improved learning. All work MBAMP does with teachers is in the service of helping all students to develop conceptual understanding and high levels of mathematical skills.
