CSMP

For those physical educators who want to be at the forefront of 
designing and delivering standards-based instruction.  

A sequential, research based, professional development program that 
provides physical education teachers with the skills, knowledge, and 
confidence to implement standards-based physical education instruction 
in their schools and school districts.  The series includes instruction, 
guided practice, and feedback on your individual work in each of the 
following: revealing  content, determining the nature of evidence of 
student learning, design or select assessment tools, design and deliver 
effective instruction, and

Available for physical educators at your school district or in programs 
designed for individual teachers or small groups of teachers to move 
through the series on their own. 

In 2008, the California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness (Wellness Task Force) was commissioned by The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente to take a closer look at the “state of physical education” in California’s K-12 schools with the goal of providing legislative recommendations based on current findings. 

The content of the following findings is based upon a comprehensive literature review and focus groups, surveys and key informant interviews conducted with California teachers and district-level physical education representatives. Since different authors provided their results, their findings were then combined by staff into one inclusive report. Individual literature reviews and research findings contain separate Tables of Contents. 

Viewed through the lens of a physical educator, this set of documents creates a clearer picture of the day-to-day issues, challenges and successes of physical education classes in California schools.
