The Capital Region is characterized by extremes. From some of the largest and fastest growing school districts to some of the smallest districts or districts experiencing significant enrollment decline, from some of the most affluent districts to some of the most impoverished, and from challenged inner city districts to rural districts comprised of but one school, Region 3 presents a myriad of challenges. Moreover, its 10,441 square miles are geographically diverse, spanning the agrarian communities of the greater Sacramento Valley, the urban centers around the state capital, the varied communities of the Gold Country, and the remote rural communities of the Eastern Sierra.
