Program: CSU Stanislaus FA to Frontloading English Language Instruction for Houghon-Mifflin Reading, K-6 COPY 4 OF 4
Purpose
The Focused Approach to Frontloading English Language Instruction for Houghton Mifflin Reading Institutes are trainings designed for California Educators who have English Learners in their classrooms and who are implementing the 2002 Houghton Mifflin Reading program in grades K-6.
The purpose of the Institutes is to prepare teachers to effectively teach language throughout the instructional day, with particular emphasis on how to link language instruction to reading instruction using the new California State Board-adopted Houghton Mifflin Reading program. A comparable professional development is currently being developed for the Open Court Reading Program.
Audience
K-6 teachers who have all levels of English Learners and who are implementing the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program. School and/or district teams are encouraged to apply.
This workshop is for teachers currently using Houghton Mifflin Reading with students, who have had training on how to use the materials. We will not be addressing the implementation of Houghton Mifflin Reading in general, but will focus specifically on how to provide support to English Language Learners. This is not a training of trainers, and only those teachers who attend a California Reading & Literature Project sponsored offering of “A Focused Approach to Frontloading English Language Instruction” are authorized to use the handbook provided to participants.
