A new interactive online exhibit from the California Council for the Humanities (CCH) – We Are California: Stories of Immigration and Change – will explore the history and stories of those who have immigrated or migrated to California. A new partnership between the Council and the California History-Social Science Project (CHSSP) is working together to bring this exciting resource to the classroom. Through the CCH-CHSSP partnership, four professional development workshops for California K-12 history teachers were held this summer and eight more will be held during the 08-09 school year across the state.
More than 125 teachers attended the We Are California workshops this summer, at UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis, and Stanford University. Participants received an overview of the new site, a standards-aligned unit of study to use in their classroom, and access to the beta site, prior to the launch of the new resource online. Dates and locations for the school year workshops will be released this fall.
