CMP was aksed to design a professional development program for teachers grades K-8 that will increase their effectiveness in preparing students to become proficient in Algebra 1. The CMP formed the CMP Algebra Initiative Committee with four subcommittees (grades K-2, 3-5, 6-7, and Algebra 1). The elementary grades are targeting on student misconceptions that can become hurdles in later grades. All are focusing on conceptual understanding of algebraic thinking and algebra concepts. The committee determined five big ideas of algebra:
Structures of Number Systems and Operations Equivalence Proportional Reasoning Patterns, Relations, and Functions Variables and SymbolsThe Committee will present their preminary efforts at the site directors' meeting on May 15.
