The San Jose Area Writing Project is initiating The Parent University in conjunction with the 2013–2014 Saturday Seminars. San José State University's San Jose Area Writing Project invites parents of children in Kindergarten through high school to attend Parent University. Learn meaningful ways to engage your child in reading and writing, and simultaneously learning these important skills for yourself. Register in advance online for any of the following seminars, or in–person in Sweeney Hall, Room 229 the day of the event. Questions? Email us at SanJoseWritingProject@sjsu.edu or Katherine Masters. You can register online by clicking on the Register Online button in each event box or call (408)-924-4412.

Activities (1)
Don't Fight It: Using Technology as a Tool to Increase Reading and Writing Time
Adults often complain about how technology is ruining children's study habits. Parents struggle with getting their kids to stop video games, while teachers wonder how they can get their students to read and write more outside of class. Embracing technology as a tool for reading and writing can help solve that struggle. Online resources abound that will engage children, from young ones to teens, in the processes of reading and writing. We will examine these resources together, playing with them ourselves and drawing conclusions about how we might be able to use them in our own homes.
