The San Joaquin Global Education Project (CISP) invites upper elementary through secondary teachers of social science, language arts, science, mathematics, foreign language and special education to participate in a 7-day institute on July 22-26, 2013 and September 13-14.
The purpose of the institute is to strengthen teachers’ professional knowledge and ability to teach rigorous content, concepts and principles within Common Core State Standards. Hands-on activities and experiences will aid both new and veteran teachers in implementing Elements of Effective Teaching that promise to yield significant gains in the classroom.
By participating in the institute, the students of participants who teach courses such as secondary world history, geography, international relations, global issues or humanities, will learn about and be eligible for involvement in the Contemporary World History Project. CWHP is a computer-assisted, problem-solving international negotiations simulation. It is completely aligned with the new CCSS, and provides an exciting avenue for students of all abilities to meet the requirements of rigorous standards. CWHP teachers attend additional staff development days during the school year.
Other components of the institute include: learning to implement an instructional process focused on equity and access for all students applying effective teaching strategies that develop critical thinkers learning to consistently hold students accountable for mastering content and adhering to classroom norms acquiring instructional skills and strategies that yield significant gains in the classroom receiving multiple ability activities and resources reflecting on common classroom situations through experiential exercises and video observations of classrooms learning to use skillbuilders that incorporate roles and norms that students will use throughout the academic year reading and discussing case studies related to effective teaching practices in heterogeneous classrooms
