To The Northern California Writing Project's Home Page
The
Northern
California Writing Project is a nationally recognized professional
organization devoted to improving the teaching and learning of writing
in the North State. We serve schools and teachers in all of the
following counties: Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Trinity, Shasta, Tehama,
Plumas, Butte, and Glenn.
An affiliate of
the National Writing Project, the Northern
California Writing Project is a No Child Left Behind-approved
professional development provider. Please explore the links below, or
contact the site director, Dr. Tom Fox, for information
about the variety of programs on offer from the NCWP.
The NCWP
offers programs designed to
improve the writing of Northern
California's students. The Summer Invitational Institute is the
centerpiece of the NCWP's offerings, but numerous, flexible programs
are also available for students, teachers, and administrators.
District-wide inservices are offered, along with professional
development institutes for individual teachers at all educational
levels. See Suzanne Linebarger's information on the "contacts" page
for inservice information.

The Winter Conference: Teaching Writing, K-14
- The 2006 Winter Conference on the teaching of writing took place on Saturday, February 25. Our keynote speaker was Patricia Lambert Stock, former President of the National Council of Teachers of English. For full details, download the flyer.

Invitational Institutes
- The Summer Invitational Institute brings together experienced teachers--from grade levels K-college in all disciplines--for a four-week, intensive examination of best practices in teaching writing.
- The NCWP is currently seeking applicants for the 2006 Chico Summer Invitational Institute, June 13-July 7, 2006. If you're interested in the 2006 Invitational Summer Institute, please download the application form (.pdf form)
- To better serve teachers in northern counties, a special Siskiyou County Summer Invitational Institute will be held at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed. The 2006 Siskiyou Summer Institute will begin June 27 and conclude July 21. Details are available on the application form (.pdf form)

Applying for CSU, Chico, Continuing Education Credits through the Northern California Writing Project
- If you are participating in a professional development program offered by the Northern California Writing Project, you may be eligible for Continuing Education units. Your program presenter will offer specifics about the number of units available, as well as the cost. The required forms and instructions for filling them out are available online.
