In 2001, a consortium of faculty from College of Science, College of Agriculture, College of Engineering and College of Education began to collaborate with five school districts to develop a teacher support system for K-12 science teachers of students in our urban area. WIth a number of grants to support our work, a proffessional development plan is being implemented.

Intensive summer institutes, with leadership from university faculty, science educators and master teachers, will include college level lessons integrated with hands-on activities grounded in research-based practices. All institutes emphasize methods of access for all learners through a variety of strategies, integrating best practices with approved materials available in participant schools.

Follow ups that occur in the academic year following summer institues provide additional support in teacher understanding of science content, student learning and classroom teaching.
