TIMSS Assessment Frameworks and Specifications 2003
http://timss.bc.edu/timss2003i/framework.html
TIMSS International Study Center has just published the second edition
of the TIMSS Assessment Frameworks and Specifications 2003.
The US Department of Education recently released information
about programs that its Expert Panel has designated as being Exemplary
& Promising Science Programs. Exemplary Programs have more substantial
evaluation data in more different locations/contexts than do Promising
Programs.
They designated 2 programs as Exemplary and 7 as Promising. Many programs
that you know about are not included, probably because they did not
apply to go through the process. The Department does not provide information
about which programs applied or about programs that applied and were
not designated.
Two of the Promising Science Programs are California-based. These are
Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) from the Lawrence Hall
of Science, and Science 2000 from Decision Development Corporation in
San Ramon.
The complete list and more detailed information can be accessed on
the web at www.ed.gov/offices/OERI/ORAD/KAD/expert_panel/newscience_progs.html
The selected Exemplary Science Programs are:
Foundational Approaches in Science Teaching (FAST)
Modeling Instruction in High School Physics
The selected Promising Science Programs are:
Developmental Approaches in Science, Health and Technology (DASH) Event-Based
Science
Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS)
Habitat Ecology Learning Program (HELP)
National Science Curriculum for High Ability Learners Project
Science 2000®
Sunflower Science Discovery Curriculum for Children

And
New enhancements to the NAEP website let users view NAEP data in clear,
user-friendly graphics! For an introduction to this new feature, go
to nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/new.asp
Or, access the NAEP Data Tool at:
nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/naepdata
and create a data table, click on the "Show Graphics" link,
and be connected to a bar or line graph presentation of the table! Analyzing
and presenting data has never been easier.
There's more! Users can use the new enhancements to explore significant
score differences between states through a colorful, dynamic map of
the United States. Connect to this map in two simple ways: through State
Profiles or the Data Tool. To access a state profile, go to:
nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/states
and click on a state, then scroll down and click on the "Cross-state
Comparisons" link. You will be connected to a page where you can
choose to view interactive U.S. maps, showing a stateís performance
compared to the rest of the nation, for a subject and year of interest.
Or, use the Data Tool to check significant score differences between
states, and then click on the "Show Graphic" link to access
an interactive map.
These new graphics are generated using Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
technology and are easily printed, saved, or incorporated into your
own documents.
