About
The California Science Project is a statewide initiative that supports and
transforms the teaching and learning of science in California schools and
universities for increased scientific literacy. Through ongoing teacher
leadership development and support, the California Science Project expands and raises the quality of science education for all California students, with special attention to the needs of an increasingly diverse population.
The California Science Project is:
- A provider of professional development for elementary through
postsecondary teachers of science.
- A regional provider of services to schools and districts that seeks to
strengthen their science programs consistent with state and national guidelines
and standards.
- A statewide network of teacher leaders and university educators who
together work toward the common goal of improving science education for all
students.
Tenets
Those involved with the California Science Project believe:
- Every student can understand, appreciate, and enjoy science.
- Teachers are central to improving science education.
- Inquiry reflects the nature and processes of science.
- Diversity of students' experiences and backgrounds enriches science
education.
- Issues of language and status can be addressed effectively in science
classrooms.
- Good citizenship requires informed, scientifically literate citizens.
