2008 Summer Institutes for Oakland K-3 Teachers
June 23-June 27, 2008

Participants will:
- Gain in-depth understanding of key concepts as outlined in the California Science Standards.
- Discover new instructional strategies for teaching hands-on, inquiry-driven science using the new CA FOSS curriculum.
- Learn research-based strategies and tools for integrating science and literacy through science notebooks
- Work with colleagues in collaborative groups to plan science instruction for the coming year.
Each participant will receive a stipend and curricular materials upon completing the 5 institute days. Lunch will be provided each day. Priority will be given to applicants applying in teams from the same school.

2008 Earth Science Summer Institutes for WCCUSD CAMSP 4th and 5th Grade Teachers
August 11-15, 2008

- Seaview Staff Development Center, 2000 Southwood Drive, San Pablo, CA
Institute activities will build science content knowledge, model effective pedagogy and curriculum and model strategies for integrating literacy and ELD in science, while addressing 4th and 5th grade earth science and investigation & experimentation strands of the California State Science Standards.
