Before coming to LHS, Claudio spent 8 years teaching at Stonehurst Elementary School in Oakland. He taught Kindergarten for 5 years, 5th grade for 2 years, and was the science & technology coordinatorfor 3 years, one of those years as a full time Teacheron Special Assignment.
Originally from Santiago, Chile, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1974. He received his BS in Physiology from the University of Minnesota in 1979, and then moved to the Bay Area in 1982. After working in the School of Pharmacy at UCSF for 11 years, he decided to become a teacher. He earned his BCLAD Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Hayward State University in 1993 and taught bilingual classes until February of 2001, at which time he began working with BASP. Claudio brings his science, technology and second language learning expertise to the BASP partner schools and summer institute

Joanna works for several projects at LHS, organizing K-5 professional development workshops for teachers and a variety of districts in the FOSS science curriculum. She brings her experience of designing, coordinating and delivering professional development programs to BASP. As a former public school teacher and mentor she brings her expertise to her work of supporting teachers in implementing science curriculum in their classrooms within the BASP partner districts and schools. Originally from Massachusetts, she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she focused much of her energy on health education and HIV prevention among college students. She moved to Berkeley in 1992 and earned her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and CLAD Certification from John F. Kennedy University in Orinda. Joanna taught math and science at Willard Middle School in the Berkeley Unified School District for 6 years prior to coming to LHS. She began working for BASP in January 2000 and enjoys working with teachers and on school garden projects.
