Request for Proposals

    Regional Partnership Initiative
The University of California Office of the President invites proposals from established CSMP regional councils in partnership with one or more middle or high schools that have been designated Quality Education Investment Act (QEIA) eligible in order to plan and engage in long-term professional development designed to improve teachers' effectiveness and to increase student learning. The initial funding period will be January 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.These partnerships may include schools who received QEIA funding (For a list of schools, see references and resources on page 6) and those who did not (hereafter referred to as QEIA "eligible" schools).

    CSMP Request for Proposals
The University of California Office of the President invites proposals from institutions of higher education to continue as hosts of a California Subject Matter Project (CSMP) site. CSMP sites applying for the 2008-2011 period are expected to build upon what has been learned since the Project's inception. Each site should be guided by research-based practices in the content area. These CSMP professional development programs need to be of sufficient focus, intensity, and duration to support meaningful teacher change and must pay particular attention to reading and writing competency for all, including English learners. Sites are asked to provide their goals and overall work plan for the next three years with specific plans for the first year and will submit an annual report of progress.

Seven million, eight hundred thousand dollars ($7.8 million) from Federal and State sources are available to support CSMP sites in 2008-09 in order to:

    * raise the level of teacher content and pedagogical content knowledge, * provide ongoing teacher leadership development, * build teacher learning communities, and * strengthen existing and create new partnerships with low performing schools (API Deciles 1-4).
