Standards
The State Board of Education adopted statewide standards for English Language Arts in 1997. The standards form the basis of an education system that focuses on high expectations for students. The California Reading and Literature Project and the California Writing Project endeavor to improve teaching in the state's lowest performing schools so that all students can meet the standards. The English Language Arts Curriculum Framework will be available here in October 1999. For a copy in the mean time, please contact the California State Department of Education.
