Welcome to the Bay Area Mathematics Project
What is BAMP?
The Bay Area Mathematics Project is one of the 19 statewide California Mathematics Project (CMP) sites and is situated on the UC Berkeley campus at the Lawrence Hall of Science. BAMP endeavors to enhance the quality of K-12 mathematics education in the Bay Area by increasing teachers' mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge through summer institutes, workshops, seminars, site-based and district-level work.

Up-Coming Saturday Seminar:

May 10, 2008
"Power of the Arts"

Keynote: Pam Lucker, Trena Noval, Ellen Oppenhiemer, and Kelly Rozario
The Power of Art
For the past 10 years Peralta Elementary School has been a model site for arts integration in the Bay Area. Located in North Oakland, the Peralta campus is a testament to the arts program that has become part of the fabric of the schools’ core curriculum. Artists in Residence Trena Noval and Ellen Oppenhiemer, along with teachers Kelly Rozario and Pam Lucker, will present model visual arts and writing curriculum projects which incorporate creative writing, video animation, drawing and environmental installations that are folded into Peralta’s Language Arts, Science and Social Studies curriculum. Peralta is an Alameda County Arts Anchor School and this year was designated a national Arts Active Laboratory School site through a partnership with Harvard’s Project Zero, California College for the Arts, Center for Art and Public Life and Alameda County Office of Education.

Math Workshops:
    For Grade Levels K-2
    Victoria Brady, The Exploratorium
    Spider Math
We will use geoboards to weave webs, and make thumbprint spiders to tell number stories in this spider-themed workshop.

    For Grade Levels 3-6
Kimi Hosume, FOSS with Jaine Kopp, Director of BAMP, Lawrence Hall of Science
    Geometry Through Origami

    For Grade Levels 7-10
    Henri Picciotto
Geometric Transformations and Symmetry: Activities to Connect Algebra, Geometry, and Art
Learn about the isometries of the plane - the mathematics that underlie all symmetry, whether in a car's hubcap, on wallpaper, or in a pattern block design.
