Interactive Processes

| Teachers from a high school in the Los
Angeles area meet with visiting Egyptian teachers. |
A persuasive and growing body of research literature demonstrates the
importance of classroom interaction in promoting learning. In fact, active
learning strategies lie at the heart of the educational process and are
especially critical to the educational success of low-academic status
students and students at risk of failing in our schools. World history
and international studies subject matter provide unique opportunities
to make learning an active, dynamic reality for students. This field is
built upon processes of inquiry and interpretation, which are, in turn,
the foundation for development of higher order thinking skills. Instructional
strategies given priority by CISP include divergent questioning, debates,
role plays, dramatic presentations, simulations, and cooperative small
group learning.
